Frida Kahlo Museum

This is an example of a cultural post. Please reply with a post about another cultural aspect of Mexico.

For a cultural experience, try visiting the Frida Kahlo museum, located in Coyoacan, a southwestern suburb of Mexico City. Frida Kahlo was not only a painter, but also a costume, jewelry, and mask designer. The museum houses examples of all of these works. She had childhood polio, and as a consequence had one leg shorter than the other. This led to her dressing in her long, native costumes throughout her life. She also had an accident which required many operations afterwards, and her long hours spent in bed are when she taught herself to paint. The colonial style house the museum is located in is also where Kahlo was born and grew up. The museum is decorated in Mexicanista style, with vibrant colors and traditional pots, tiles, and dishes gracing the walls and tables. The museum is located at 247 Londres, at Allende in Coyoacan. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission is just $2. For any more information, call 525-658-8732.

Maya Ruins

This is an example of a post about visitor attractions. Please reply with a post about another attraction of Mexico.

If Cozumel's beautiful white beaches, lagoons, and coves aren't enough, take the opportunity to see the Maya ruins still on the island. The Maya fertility goddess Ixchel made her sacred home here on the island whose name means "land of the swallows". You can visit the temple made to her at the San Gervasio Ruins.

Roman Catholicism

This is an example of a post about a religion of Mexico. Please reply with a post about another aspect of religion in Mexico.

Separation of church and state is guaranteed in Mexico's constitution, also guaranteeing that there is no official religion of Mexico. Most people practice Roman Catholicism, and thousands upon thousand of people make pilgrimages each year to the shrine of the nation's patron saint, the Virgin Guadalupe, in Mexico City.

Burrito

This is an example of a post about food. Please respond with a post about a different type of Mexican food.

The burrito is a soft flour tortilla filled with meat, cheese, and assorted vegetables. Here is a recipe for a vegetarian burrito from http://www.allrecipes.com. Ground beef or chicken could easily be added.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 (10 inch) flour tortilla
  • 1/4 cup vegetarian refried beans
  • 1 slice American cheese
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon low-fat sour cream
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a small pot heat the refried beans until they are heated through, approximately 5 minutes.
  2. Warm the tortilla in a dry frying pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Lay the burrito on a flat surface. Place the refried bean in the center of the burrito, layer the cheese, pepper, sour cream and hot sauce over the beans. Roll the tortilla so that the mixture is wrapped in the center. Serve warm.
